Now that the passing of labor day has unofficially marked the end of summer, I thought I’d share what i got up to in the past few months!
This past Spring was a bit of a whirlwind. In the same week as my birthday, I had to take an unexpected trip to New York in April to attend my grandmother’s funeral, and then I had a cousin’s wedding to go to right on Mother’s Day in May, not feeling the best about the holiday without my grandmother for the first time. After that I was ready to kick start a lazy, peaceful summer.
JUNE – Road Trip to Los Angeles:
Just as I was easing back into my routine home in Chicago, my sister Shelley called me with a last minute proposition: “If I drive to Chicago, (she was in Virginia) will you ride with me the rest of the way to Los Angeles?” I shocked both her and myself when I responded “YEAH!?” with zero hesitation. Joining her on her road trip move seemed to be just the “relaxing” thing I didn’t know I needed.
Two weeks later, she arrived in Chicago with all her belongings stuffed in her car and #snacksonsnacks. She drove 12 hours by herself! (RESPECT) We spent the next two nights at my place and then headed out for our west coast adventure.
This is going to sound crazy to some of y’all, but can you believe we did not play any music for the first 10 HOURS of the trip? THAT’S how much talking Shelley and I do. We had so much to catch up on, and we love bonding over car games, experiences we’ve recently had, and talking about our favorite tv shows and movies. We just genuinely enjoy each other’s company.
One morning as we drove through Colorado, we stopped to take photos of some beautiful snow capped mountains. This was one of the first mountains we saw and we were so impressed, thinking it was the most beautiful thing ever! Little did we know we were in for some MAJOR scenic overload for the rest of the trip! We were cracking up a few hours after this picture was taken because this mountain paled in comparison to the rest that we saw. We had never been to Colorado before and seriously want to plan a full trip there in the future.
That day we found the coziest little breakfast café called Buffalo Moon Coffee in Genesee Park. If you’re ever in the area you have to order the Egg Burrito and get the pork green chili smothered on it! (TRUST me) That might’ve been the BEST breakfast burrito I’ve ever tasted! My sister and I split one but quickly regretted that decision! Once we bit into it we wanted the WHOLE burrito to ourselves! I think 50% of the reason we want to come back to Colorado is just to eat this again, haha!
July – Wedding in Miami:
For the week of Independence Day, I reunited with Shelley in Florida for her best friend’s wedding! It was nice to see my immediate family in one place shortly after my sister had moved to California. After the wedding, we spent the rest of the week relaxing at a resort and kept it pretty low-key for the holiday. It was honestly much needed and fine with me after all the wedding activity and the busy-ness in the weeks prior.
August – Lollapalooza:
And of course, my favorite way to nod off the summer is attending Lollapalooza here in Chicago. It’s always exciting to hear music at a festival, and this year I really enjoyed the line-up. I was mostly pumped to see Camila Cabello and The Weeknd perform – and they did not disappoint.
Chicago weather did not disappoint either! The park didn’t get rained out like last year and the temps hit the 90s only 2 out of the 4 days – a win for the girl (ahem, me) who can only tolerate up to 80-ish degrees.
