Summer is officially almost over, but the weather hasn’t completely cooled down yet. Morning temperatures drop a little, but by noon when the sun is fully out, my mind is like, “wait is it August again?”
Especially with retailers and marketers and how they make you feel like the cooler months are here before it actually is? Department stores go full force stocking their shelves with boots and things like Thanksgiving decorations. It all just seems so aggressive to me and I personally need to ease into it a little slower.
Not gonna lie, I’m definitely one of those people who gets excited for the holidays ahead of time, but when it’s still 75+ degrees, it just doesn’t feel natural to whip out my vampy brown lipsticks just yet. Key point? I need a little transition, people.
With that said, today, I’m sharing my go-to transitional outfit for these in-between seasons. This is great when you want to express a hint of Fall but aren’t ready to bust out your fuzzy sweaters just yet.
A Light Jacket
Can we talk about Camo print for a moment? It’s a favorite of mine and I have to restrain myself from buying/wearing too much of it! I have a camo makeup bag, more than enough camo shirts, (see me wearing one in this post) and camo hats. Basically, if it comes in camo, I’ll take it!
You can pretty much catch me wearing this camo jacket every day during the months of Spring or Fall – what’s great about this print is that it’s acceptable to wear all year long!
I treat camo as a neutral, so, in my opinion it matches with everything! And while it’s a neutral, it still manages to be kind of a statement and jazzes up what would otherwise be a pretty plain jane outfit. It kind of gives an effortless “cool-girl” style to anything. You can seriously just throw a camo jacket over an old T-shirt and leggings and look put together. (Add some Converse sneakers and that’s pretty much my go-to travel outfit as well haha)
If it gets a little hot, I just tie the jacket around my waist – which still looks visually interesting and keeps it on hand for when you’ll need to put it on again. I live in Chicago where the weather changes by the hour so I definitely need the flexibility to constantly remove and throw back on!
When I get tired of camo, (or if you don’t like camo) another option is to swap this out for a denim jacket. You can never go wrong with denim!
Striped Shirt
I’m wearing a simple striped shirt underneath. I like mixing stripes with other prints and I think the mustard yellow color plays nice with the tones of the jacket. I like that the yellow isn’t bright, (which screams Summer) but more of a peanut buttery color which slowly introduces Fall vibes. Once its full blown Fall/Winter, I’ll start swapping the yellow striped shirt for a classic black and white one.
High-Rise Faded Black Jeans
In case you haven’t noticed, I’m always in black jeans. This pair is a faded black version that pulls a little gray-ish. I like the muted tone which is less harsh then a jet black – perfect again, for easing into the dark colors. These jeans are the BEST. They’re high-rise, which is so figure flattering and have a little stretch which makes them fitted, but comfortable. You can find them here and in so many colors at Target!
Well that’s pretty much my transitional “uniform.” It’s easy and doesn’t require much thought. This also works as my last-minute outfit to quickly throw on when I have no idea what to wear and want to be comfy, but presentable.
