The Pink Teddy Coat (And Attitude Check) I Never Knew I Needed

If you would’ve told me a few weeks ago that I’d be writing a blog post featuring a pink coat, completed with an all pink makeup look – I would’ve probably spit out my diet coke from laughing. (Cause let’s be honest – I always have a Diet Coke in hand – but that’s besides the point)

I’ve been wanting to jump on the teddy coat bandwagon for some time now and had my heart set on a brown one, but life had other plans.

Do you like to shop online or in store?

I’d actually had my eye on this one from Amazon, but before purchasing, I decided to swing by my Nordstrom Rack to see if they had anything similar in stock. I’m someone who actually prefers in store shopping to online, because I like to try things on and want instant gratification. Even though Amazon Prime has free 2-day delivery, I wanted one NOW.

The hunt for the perfect coat:

Of course I went straight for the brown coats and tried on what I thought was the perfect one! It was soft, it fit great, it was a neutral, and it was DARK – which is my aesthetic, ALWAYS.

As I was checking myself out in the mirror, some guy I didn’t know just randomly walks by and says “You like that jacket?” Immediately, I went on the defense and was annoyed that his attention was on me and was “being nosey” (I know, I’m CRAZY! I’m being very honest with you guys, don’t judge! 🙈)

I answered snippily “YES…why? Is it ugly?”  He simply states: “I like the pink one.”

In my head I was thinking “okaaaay who ASKED you?” I felt a little awkward and embarrassed that someone was watching me shop, so I just mumbled something like “Well…I haven’t finished trying all the colors…and I don’t like pink.” Looking back, I probably sounded like a brat. He just said “OK” and he walked away.

I was so weirded out by the guy and waited until he got far enough away before I went back to the rack and curiously grabbed the pink one when he wasn’t looking. I put it on and instantly saw my face brighten up! The color looked and fit so much better on me, I was OBSESSED. When I compared, the brown one actually kinda washed me out and made me look pale. I instantly felt kinda silly that this stranger actually made a great suggestion and I was dismissive.

I swapped the brown for the pink and then found the man to say my thank yous. I told him, “You were right! The pink is better, you have a great eye.” He said, “I just thought it went well with your skin tone.”

After a couple of minutes of chatting, I realized he was actually an employee there, which I didn’t notice before. This guy wasn’t stalking your life TANIA, he was DOING HIS JOB. He HELPED you make a better choice, and clearly he knows his stuff.

I felt so STUPID.

Note: In my defense, (😇) my mom and sister said they liked the brown one as well for a more “everyday look.” What do you think? Should I go back for the brown too? They always enable me when it comes to shopping and I lose more money, sheesh!

The moral of the story is, sometimes I’m rude as hell and need an attitude check. Kidding, (but not really) the point is, when it comes to fashion, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with different colors or styles than you normally would – you might surprise yourself!

Also, it doesn’t hurt to bring a buddy or ask for a second opinion. (Ahem, HINT Tania!) You see yourself everyday, and someone else might point out a feature of yours (in this case, it was my skin tone) that compliments something well. I always thought pink looked off on me!

I went from being unnecessarily cold to having a smile on my face the rest of that shopping trip – and it was all thanks to that Nordstrom Rack guy who thankfully “got in my business.” The excitement about my new purchase inspired me to shoot all these photos the next day. I kept the pink theme going with my makeup look as well.

Teddy Coat Details

The coat I got was the brand Steve Madden, found at Nordstrom Rack. They do not have my pink one online (check in store though!) but they do have one in beige. I’ve linked a very similar pink one here – but $110 is a little expensive for me personally, as I won’t wear a color like this as often. (Mine was marked down for only $49.99!)

There’s also this cheaper version I found on Amazon – but just be careful and make sure to read reviews before buying. At least Amazon has free returns on some colors and sizes!

When it comes to Nordstrom Rack, your best bet is going in store to take a look at the selection. It’s kinda like TJ Maxx in that way, you have to hunt for some treasures!

I don’t know guys, maybe I like pink now – and maybe Rubi On Repeat is going to start seeing some more colors on here that aren’t black & white? What is happening to me? Nordstrom Rack guy started somethin’.
